April in a Nutshell

About the middle of April both the kids and Tyler came down with the worst flu! It all started on a Tuesday morning. Makayla woke up coughing and when I went in to check on her, she had gagged to the point where she made herself throw up. I made both kids a bottle and put them in our bed. They both downed their bottle, but within a few minutes, Kayla threw hers up. By 7:00 she had thrown up three times and we knew she had to stay home. Tyler stayed home that day and by the time I got home from work, the flu was in full force. Both kids were so sick and couldn't hold anything down. It is so sad to say, but it was coming out of both ends. Our poor kids went through so many pairs of pajamas, and even worse for us was that we had to clean it all up! We hoped it was just the 24 hour flu, but then next day they were even worse. I got to stay home with them the next two days. Don't you just feel so bad for them? They did not feel good.
This is how Makayla looked for almost the entire three days. She did love that she got to watch her movies all day long.
I think the saddest part was that Makayla was so hungry, but she just couldn't keep anything down. She asked for a "butter honey" sandwich and scarfed everything except for one bite. Then within minutes she went to the bathroom and threw it all up. The worst part was that she didn't make the connection that what she was eating was making her sick, so she ran back and ate the last bit of her sandwich. The throwing up and diarrhea got so bad that on Thursday I ended up taking them to the doctor because I was worried they were too dehydrated. Caden was the worst. He wouldn't drink or eat anything and he was just so lethargic. The doctor was pretty concerned too. We ended up having to hold Caden down and force feed him juice through a syringe. It was the saddest thing!
The good news is that Makayla learned how to throw up in the toilet! :) Look at me; always trying to look for the positive in every situation!

Once the horrible flu was over, our kids were finally back to normal!!

Here's Caden with his new favorite toy. He loves to walk all around the house with his puppy. Sometimes he gets stuck and can't figure out how to move it, so he just screams until we come and help him.

Caden is learning how to drink from his sippy cup. Don't you just love his big eyes?
Oh and here he is with the remote... for some reason he just loves to play with the remote, but he does not love watching t.v. Go figure.

Some other things about Caden at 13 months:
-His top two teeth finally poked through. That makes a total of 4 teeth now.
-Caden is learning to crawl upstairs. He knows he is not supposed to, but he does it anyway and then laughs so hard when you go up them to get him down.
-He is getting so much better at walking. He started walking about a month ago, but then stopped. I think he realized he could get places a lot faster if he crawled, but now he is trying to walk again. He can almost walk across the room.
-Caden is by far the best eater. He will eat almost anything!
-He is starting to babble.
-In the mornings when we get ready for work, Caden likes to hang out in the sink and watch us get ready.
-He loves to play with Makayla's toys, especially her Little People princess castle!

After the horrible flu, our little girl was finally back to normal, well, if you can call this normal... I think she was still a little sick in this picture, but she was having so much fun running around the house with her towel after her bath.

Makayla loves her picture taken and says "cheese" for us every time!

-Makayla is starting to have full conversations with us and they just crack us up.
-She loves to get Caden to crawl up the stairs. She is always telling him, "broder, crawl dis" (brother, crawl like this), but when he gets up there she just heads back down stairs and leaves him up there to scream until we get him.
-She is learning all of her colors and can tell us most of them, but one day she said to me and Tyler, "What color dis?" and when we told her, she responded, "good job, guys". It's always nice to have the approval of a two year old! :)
-I shamelessly taught Makayla to say, "Mommy my best fwiend" and now she likes to tell everyone that. It melts my heart every time she says it!
-Makayla loves to put her babies to sleep. She is always telling us, "Shhh...baby sleeping" and then minutes later gets this huge surprised look on her face and says, "Baby wake!" and runs into her room. Then, every day when she gets home she runs into her room to check on the babies. But she insists that the blinds are always closed, which drives me nuts! I try to sneak into her room and open the blinds but she always figures it out and shuts them. This is usually how her babies can be found:

-She is starting to put the word "kinda" into all of her sentences like: "It kinda hurt."
-She loves to sing Happy Birthday and tells us all the time, "Sing Happy Birthday Kay-bugs" then after she pretends to blow out the candles. If you tell her it is someone else's birthday, she gets really mad and yells, "No! It's Kay-Bugs birthday!"
-She loves to sing parts of songs, but does not like us to sing. One day she told Tyler, "No, no Da-di. No singing 'at last I see the light'"
-The highlight of her day is watching one of her movies. Lately she has been obsessed with "Beauty Beast". She throws some major fits if you turn off her movies!

And last, but not least, our little girl is such a good helper. She was helping Tyler dig a hole for our new trees.

And finally to end the month of April, we had a birthday party for my mom last weekend. She turned 64 this year. She probably won't be happy that I posted her age on my blog, but oh well! :) We had a bar-b-q at our house and spoiled her with a lot of presents. She deserved it! My mom is fantastic and we all appreciate everything she does for all of us!

 Happy Birthday Mom!!

The Big ONE!

Yep, it officially happened. My sweet little baby is no longer a baby... he's one year old! We are so blessed to have this sweet little boy in our family!! Because he is the cutest little boy we had to have a big party that lasted for days to celebrate.

Here's my little guy the morning of his birthday. Isn't he just the cutest little boy EVER?
Caden's birthday was on Thursday and the kids went to daycare. They had cupcakes there and the other kids sang happy birthday to him at lunch.

We took the birthday boy and Kay-bugs out to dinner that night at our family's favorite restaurant, El Rancho Grande. I got what I normally get, 2 cheese enchiladas and a taco, and split it with the kids, but our kids must have been extra hungry because all I got to eat of my whole dinner was the taco and few bites of my encha. The kids ate my whole dinner! :) Luckily Tyler shared some of his dinner with me or else I might have starved! :)

This little kid downed his food. We ended up taking his plate away because I was worried he ate too much.

 Love me some Kay-bugs!!
After dinner we came home and Caden got to open his presents from Mommy and Daddy.
Kayla was such a good helper and opened all of Caden's presents for him.
Caden got a toy vacuum and a tricycle.

Then on Saturday we had Caden's family birthday party. I have been planning his 1st birthday party since he was born and decided to do a "monkey" theme since I like to call Caden our little Monkey.

We sent out invitations a few weeks before.
Tyler helped me come up with the saying that said:

"Swing" on in for lots of fun;
Our little "monkey" is turning one!
Be at Caden's on April sixth,
for pizza, salad and banana splits.
It starts at four, so don't be late,
 'cause Cader-tot's asleep by eight.

Then we decorated the basement with all sorts of monkey things

On the table I made a monkey centerpiece and had two of his 1 year pictures sitting out. We also had animal cookies, green and yellow M & M's, and Banana chips for people to munch on.
I made this for our game. We played "pin the tail on the monkey"

We had green and yellow balloons
And Caden's smash cake with a banana on it.
But my favorite part were the monkeys and bananas hanging from the ceiling. Thanks to my sis-in-law  Meg for making them.

We have the best family that is so supportive, and with both families we had over 30 people come to Caden's party.

We started out with pizza then moved right into our game.
Here's everyone before we started:
Colton, Makayla, Caden, Sadie, Carson, and Maddie. (Cole and Hannah think they are too big now to play games)

Caden got to go first at the game, but he needed a lot of help from Mommy to put his tail up.

Then all the other kids got a turn.

After everyone went, we determined the winner was Colton!

Colton got a special prize of cotton candy, but everyone got a goodie bag that had a green drink, animal cookies, monkey fruit snacks, a monkey pencil, candy, and toys.

Here's #3 playing with #6

Aren't they so cute together? :)

Then it was time for presents. I'll tell ya, this little boy is sure loved and spoiled by all his family. He got so many cute clothes and toys.

Obviously one year old's don't have a very long attention span, and every time Caden would get a toy, he just wanted to play with that and threw a few little fits when we tried to open another present.

Thanks so much to everyone for all the cute gifts for Caden! We appreciate it so much.

After presents, Caden got his very own smash cake.
We sang Happy Birthday to him then I helped him blow out his candle.

I thought he would dig into his cake right away, but he didn't know what to think of it at first.
I finally gave him a taste of it on my finger and he gagged on it... funniest thing ever!
But once he got used to the taste and texture, he was hooked.

This is what my cute little monkey looked like by the end.

Daddy was in charge of giving Caden a bath while the rest of us went off to enjoy our banana splits!

We had such a fun birthday with our little monkey who is now walking!!

Guess it's time to start planning his 2nd birthday.

Happy 1st Birthday Caden! We love you so much!
