Why is May such a crazy month? It seems like our calendar was filled before the month even started. May was filled with lots of school awards, programs, and field trips. All the fun school days left me feeling in a daze... get it?
First off, I wish I could adequately describe in this blog post how proud we are of Caden. He was awarded the "Leader in Me" award at school. Caden has been hoping all year that he would win this award. If you know anything about Caden, you know how hard he works in school. Some times things are harder for him and he has to work twice as hard to accomplish his goals, but he NEVER GIVES UP! It's hard as a parent to watch your kid work so hard at things and wonder if the teacher sees all the hard work, and all the tears, and all the joys when it "clicks" and wonder if they will be recognized for it all. Mrs. Otley has been the best teacher for Caden and has really helped him grow both academically and socially this year. Caden was awarded the Leader in Me for Habit 7 and we were so excited to go see him receive his award during a special assembly.
Caden's teacher wrote: "Caden is earning the award for habit seven because he always strives to do his best, even when he is feeling unsure about what he is being asked to do. It hasn't been easy for Caden to ask for help when he is confused. Caden also used to be nervous to answer questions or speak in front of the class. Now he asks when he needs help, raises his hand often to contribute, and has read both his first grade oral reports to the class with fluency and ease. He has also come a long way with his writing. He is creative and adds details to make his writing more interesting for others to read. With all this grown in one year, it is easy to see that Caden sharpens the saw. Great Job Caden! If there's one description that describes Caden's 1st grade year, it is this. He struggled in the beginning of the year, but once he got comfortable, he really excelled, and we are beyond proud of him!
Then, I got to go on the best field trip with Caden and his classmates. We went to the Bean Museum at BYU and then to a park after. The kids had fun learning about classifying animals.
If one field trip wasn't enough, I got to go with Brynnli to Wheeler Farm for her field trip!
This girl is a hoot. She was having so much fun with her class and was totally showing off.
She kept asking me to take pictures of her, so here's a lot of adorable pictures of our cute Brynnie.
I am the luckiest mom around!
What about Makayla, you ask? Well we got to go to Makayla's school and got to see her present her animal project. Makayla wanted to do her project on giraffes. She did the research on her own and made this diorama. She also had to memorize facts about giraffes and present it to all the parents who came to the open house.
Camden even got to come to Makayla's class!
Caden's class had a special program for the parents where they did a skit for all of us. Then they each got an award. Caden was awarded the "Positive Attitude" award. His teacher said that whenever there was something the class wasn't too excited about, Caden would chime in with some thing positive, like, "well at least we get to..." And that perfectly describes him at home too (most of the time).
To top it all off, Makayla and Caden were awarded the Falcon Leader award. This is a pretty cool award to get. The requirements are different for each grade, but basically it requires the kids to go above and beyond their school work. They have to read at least 2,500 minutes a night, return their homework on time every day, have great attendance, and complete extra projects. We are so proud of them for receiving this award.
To end our May Daze post, we got to go see Brynnli's end of year program. This was the cutest program. Brynnli was so excited for it, but when we got there and she had to go up on stage, she got nervous. This was her mad face...
I was laughing so hard because this was her most of the first song. She said she was mad because every one was smiling and laughing when she went up on stage.
Brynnli was awarded the "On the Ball" award because she always did what her teachers asked her to do in class. They never had to remind her to get back on task.
We love Little Learners Academy, and especially Miss Aubrey and Miss Abbey
Can you believe the school year has come to an end? Just a reminder... here's Makayla on her first day of school...
And here she is on the last day of school... ironically wearing the same shirt. I didn't realize how much she had changed in a year!
Here's Caden on the first day of school...
And the last.
Oh we love the school daze... but we are so ready and excited for summer!!!
